What do you do when you feel as though you’re carrying the weight of the world?
What do you do when you have decisions to make and responsibilities to see to and maybe none of it is that difficult, but it’s just a pile up and finding a starting place is difficult?
What do you do when you know some might not like the results of your decision, but you have to make it nonetheless?
What do you do when you don’t have all the information you need to make that decision?
What do you do when life just feels heavy?
What do you do when you’ve done all you can, and it just doesn’t seem to be enough?
I’m reminded of the old song “Take Your Burden to the Lord and Leave it There” by Washington Phillips.
The lyrics go like this:
Leave it there, oh, leave it there
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there
If you would trust Him and never doubt
He will surely bring you out
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there
Matthew 11:28 NKJV tells us that Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
The answer to all the questions I started this post with is to take it to Jesus. He is not easily wounded and is not surprised nor afraid of our concerns, our doubts, our fears, our questioning….
He does not turn away because we have a moment of distrust, rage, sadness, or disappointment….
He is God no matter what and is in no way at risk of losing His seat on His throne.
Our human emotions are no threat to Him or His glory.
What does all this mean?
Our God is BIG ENOUGH to handle whatever issues or emotions we bring Him!
He just wants us to bring them to Him!
It doesn’t mean the situation will change right then, but at least the weight of it can come off your shoulders.
It doesn’t mean that you’ll suddenly have all the information you want or think you need to make a decision, but if you’ll take it to God, then at least He can guide you in that decision and give you peace about it.
It doesn’t mean everything is suddenly sunshine an rainbows, but it will mean you have a Friend with Whom you can ride out the storm.
Whatever it is, take it to God today, friend. Trust in Him and He will give you rest!
