It’s been a little while since we last posted. We’ve been getting ready for several events we have coming up that will either serve or allow us to serve the surrounding community.
I woke up this morning with this thought on my mind “you already have ground beneath your feet”. I recognized this was a thought from the Lord, but in my sleepiness didn’t yet understand the thought process He was trying to take me through. I pondered and prayed on it throughout the day, and I want to share with you, dear reader, what I believe the Lord was communicating.
In Joshua 1, we see that God was telling Joshua how to handle his role as the new leader of the Israelite nation and making him several promises as only our God can keep. In verse 3, we read of God telling Joshua “Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses”.
I believe that God’s promises for His people stand the test of time, and even if they don’t apply to us physically, they can apply to us spiritually.
In Joshua’s case, it was both. The whole nation that he was suddenly the leader of had much to conquer, and the physical battles often reflected the spiritual battles they were dealing with.
Joshua was chosen to be the leader because he had faithfully served where he’d already been, at Moses’s side. And God promised to continue to move on Israel’s behalf if Joshua would continue to serve what he’d placed in his charge.
So as I processed what God spoke into my spirit this morning, I came to the conclusion that God was saying was for us to serve where we are while waiting for His promise. Joshua had been doing the job and was now instructed to keep doing that job in greater capacity, and God would handle the rest.
And to add another layer to this, what does the ground represent? It can represent a place but it can also represent people. Adam was made from the dust of the earth, and we’re told in Scripture that it is to dust that we shall return. So the people that we’ve been praying for? We can be confident that God will move on their hearts and present them with the choice to choose Him or not. What we should do is not get caught up in when and how God will do what He promised, but we should instead continue to serve where He already has us until He changes the situation, location, or people you’re around.
Hold on to His promise for your life, but do not neglect that which He’s already given you! Take the “land” you’re already on, and God will bring you to new “land” at the right time.
