Yesterday, Brandon and I had the privilege to preach for our pastor in our home church. He’d asked us to preach on the topic of marriage a few months ago, and as this is something that’s near and dear to our hearts, we of course said we would do our best.

We preached on 6 topics that affect marriage and approached them from a biblical standpoint from both a male and female perspective. Those 6 topics were Communication, Trust, Commitment, Teamwork, Honor, and Prayer. If you’d like to see the service, we’ll have it shared to our socials soon. We do have the intention to convert this sermon into a marriage devotional for couples to use, but that will take us a bit to get done. It will be available for download and print to order.

We recieved many compliments on the message we gave. I’ll be honest, I never quite know what to do when someone compliments a message I’ve given because I really men it when I say “It wasn’t me, it was all God”. Maybe I penned it and researched it, but I wouldn’t have the capacity to do so if God hadn’t saved me and helped me everystep of the way.

So many said they needed to hear it or that they really enjoyed it. A few asked if we do counseling. We don’t but we do suggest that a couple should seek that option if they feel it is needed. Our answer to much of this was that anything we mentioned was something that we had either learned or were still learning. We certainly don’t know it all and still have a long way to go in our own marriage. We are NOT the example anyone should seek to live by. As Brandon said in the sermon, a marriage doesn’t work because 2 people trust each other, but because they both go after a trustworthy God. We’ve not always done that or done that perfectly, but we’re making the effort and God has brought us a long way.

We are steadfast in this fact: the Word of God is the Word of God and what it says is truth. If we seek His face first, He WILL honor that effort and will continue to refine both spouses as individuals and as a couple. It’s so important to stay in prayer separately and together and keep your marriage before the Lord. Our best example of marriage is found in Scripture with Christ as the bridegroom and us as the bride. If He can help us, He can help anyone!
